Alferd Packer Grill: A Dining Spot With a Notorious Namesake

Alferd Packer Restaurant & Grill, a cafeteria at CU Boulder, is named after local legend—for all the wrong reasons—Alferd Packer, Gold Rush-era prospector. The self-proclaimed wilderness guide must not have been so great at his job. He led five other men on an attempt through the San Juan Mountains during the peak of a harsh winter, and when they ran out of food, Packer turned to… less conventional fare.

You can probably figure out why the restaurant’s slogan is “Have a friend for lunch!”
