Looking and feeling your best isn’t just about vanity—it’s about confidence. For many women, especially after pregnancy, the reflection in the mirror doesn’t always match the vibrant energy they feel inside. Whether through surgical procedures that reshape the body or non-surgical treatments that rejuvenate the skin, today’s options for self-renewal are more advanced—and more accessible—than ever.

Restoring Confidence

At Coal Creek Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery in Lafayette, board-certified plastic and cosmetic surgeon Dr. Glenn Herrmann says a mommy makeover is designed to help women reclaim their pre-pregnancy shape. The surgery typically combines a tummy tuck with a breast lift or implant to address stretched muscles and lost volume.

While most of his patients are in their late 30s or early 40s, he says the desire to feel comfortable in one’s body has no age limit. “I’ve also seen women in their sixties and seventies2 who choose these procedures,” Herrmann notes.

He advises patients to review guidelines from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and plan for a realistic recovery. Mommy makeovers are outpatient surgeries, and although most people return to light activities within a couple of weeks, swelling can take months to fully resolve. “It takes patience,” Herrmann says. “But once the swelling subsides, the full benefits become clear.”

Herrmann also cautions patients to confirm a surgeon’s credentials before scheduling any procedure. “All doctors receiving an MD in the United States are legally permitted to perform surgery,” he says. “However, not all are trained in surgery. Patients should be aware that individuals not actually trained in surgery may call themselves specialists and offer surgical procedures.”

Regenerating from Within

For those who prefer a non-invasive approach, Restor Medical Spa focuses on renewing the skin and supporting whole-body wellness. Founded in 2011 by
Dr. Flora Waples and her sister Dominique Waples-Trefil, the spa operates under the motto: “We make aging optional.”

About two-thirds of Restor’s clients are mothers, most between 35 and 55. “Pregnancy affects every part of the mother’s body,” Waples says. “Recovery should include hormone balancing and nutrition, as well as rejuvenating skin.”

Waples says the most common requests are for treatments that help clients appear more youthful, lose post-baby weight, or improve energy. Facial rejuvenation often includes softening of forehead lines—commonly called “elevens”—with Botox or similar injectables. Other popular services include microneedling, dermaplaning, and laser treatments to improve skin tone and elasticity.

“Skin aging is a result of our skin ‘forgetting’ how to make the molecules it needs, such as collagen,” Waples explains. “With age, we lose our ‘instruction manuals.’” Restor’s goal, she says, is to “turn the skin’s genes back on.”

If skin tightening and maintenance treatments begin early—around age 30 to 35—Waples believes “you’ll never need surgery. It’s much easier to maintain than to repair. Our skin has the ability to regenerate, but it is lazy. It needs prompting.”

In addition to advanced skincare, many clients turn to Restor for comprehensive wellness solutions, including medical weight-loss programs, hormone optimization, and nutrition support. Restor offers a two-tier membership plan that serves as a personalized beauty savings account. Monthly contributions can be applied toward discounted treatments and products, all tailored to each client’s unique care plan. Restor also offers the Thrive Membership program, focused on functional medicine and hormone therapy.

Working Together for Long-Term Results

Both Herrmann and Waples agree that collaboration between surgical and non-surgical care delivers the best outcomes. “Everyone should do ‘skin work’ to improve tone and skin health before surgery,” Waples says. “Repair and maintenance need to be multifactorial.”

Whether achieved through surgery, regenerative treatments, or both, the goal remains the same: helping women feel renewed, confident, and entirely themselves.
