Beauty on the Other Side of Hate
07 Dec 2020
Which is more powerful, love or hate? Filmmaker Susan Polis Schutz—the mother of Colorado’s governor, Jared Polis, and co-founder of Boulder’s Blue Mountain Arts—firmly believes the answer is love. In her new documentary, “Love Wins Over Hate,” Schutz explores the lives of six former white supremacists and ultraconservatives, once filled with anger and prejudice, who now value acceptance and diversity.
“Every morning, I wake up and watch the news or scroll through social media, and I see and feel all the anger, hatred and divisiveness,” says Schutz. “My goal for this film is for people to see that love wins over hate and to help those who are struggling with this. Whether it’s within themselves, their friends, family or colleagues, there is hope and beauty on the other side.”
The film, produced and directed by Schutz through her production company, IronZeal Films, aired on public television this fall and is now available for streaming and on DVD; check ironzealfilms.org for more details. Other IronZeal documentaries include “The Homeless Chorus Speaks” and “The Misunderstood Epidemic: Depression.”
