The Great Pumpkin Seeds

There are three year-round Farmer's Porch pumpkin seed flavors

By Haley Gray Boulder County local Patrick Smith always enjoyed roasting his own pumpkin seeds. Come fall, he and his friends would dish up spicy pumpkin seeds using peppers from their gardens. He loved experimenting with the flavors, and soon enough, he decided to do it full time. Having worked for 14 years at the natural-foods-brand company New Hope Natural Media, Smith had long harbored a dream to develop a natural brand of his own. Farmer’s Porch was born in January 2015, when he finally realized he already had a niche. Today, Smith takes pride in roasting his organically grown seeds in Colorado and sourcing them from a domestic farmer, rather than a Chinese supplier (like most pumpkin seeds on the shelves). There are three year-round Farmer’s Porch flavors: Turmeric and lime is savory and by far the most popular; the ghost-pepper variety packs a punch for spice lovers; and cinnamon and coconut sugar-dusted seeds satisfy sweet-toothed snackers. His fall specialty flavor turns up around Labor Day, so look for his pumpkin-pie spice and maple syrup variety. You can grab a tin at Cured (1825 Pearl St.), at Isabelle Farm market in Lafayette (1640 W. Baseline Road), or online at www.Coloradocraftedbox.com.
