Marin Stanek: Another Ceiling Shattered

Leading a university’s IT cavalry through a global emergency and the chaos of remote learning is a hell of a way to prove yourself. Marin Stanek became the chief information officer (CIO) at CU’s Office of Information Technology (OIT) right in the middle of the pandemic.

The first woman in that role, Stanek moved up from deputy chief information officer after 20 years with the OIT. She took the reins in January after longtime CIO Larry Levine retired, and she continues to tirelessly work to meet the rapidly evolving IT needs of students, faculty and staff.

“Like the rest of the world, CU Boulder is working through the many challenges presented by COVID-19. This is a once-in-a-century global pandemic, and we are lucky to have digital tools that allow us to support our most important stakeholders: our students,” says Stanek. “Providing tech solutions that support students, faculty and staff as they pursue their academic, research and career goals is a critical aspect of OIT’s work, and it’s a responsibility that is only achieved by being attuned to the needs of our campus community through strategic listening and planning. I’m honored to be part of this process during a historic time for the university.”
