Thoroughbreds are generally skittish. And then there’s Ray. “Ray is the most level-headed Thoroughbred I’ve had the pleasure of working with,” says Ray’s volunteer rider, Liz Specht, of Longmont’s Colorado Horse Rescue. Ray is one of several horses the rescue is helping until he finds an adopter. “I’ve never felt more proud watching a horse progress,” Specht says of Ray, “and knowing that with each ride, he’s one step closer to finding the home that he deserves.” The rescue helps abused, abandoned and neglected horses. Its annual fundraiser—The Mane Event, held on Sept. 24 this year—raised critical funds to help the horses achieve optimal health and confidence. The rescue has horses for everyone, from ponies and miniatures to rideable and companion horses. To donate or view the horses up for adoption, visit www.chr.org.
