Stain Solution Tip
To kick off a miniseries of stain-fighting tips, I’m sharing my almost fail-proof stain solution: Dawn, the original blue dish soap. This ubiquitous gem has serious fighting power for all kinds of stains—fresh, as well as set-in, common and complex stains
The fact that Dawn removed a set-in chocolate stain from my beloved sweatshirt is reason alone that it’s high on my list of stain-removing go to’s. Surprisingly, chocolate is one of the most difficult stains to remove. And we’ve all seen images of workers using Dawn to scrub off wildlife covered in crude oil from tanker spills
Even with its ability to get out some fairly heavy-duty stains, Dawn is surprisingly gentle on clothes. I have yet to see it ruin any article of clothing I’ve used it on, and it hasn’t affected any clothing colors either.
Of course, it’s best to spot test an inconspicuous area of the fabric you’re planning to treat, but I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised at the versatility and strength of such a common household product.
Bonus tip: A dab of Dawn is also quite effective on myriad bathroom stains as well, especially when combined with a bit of baking soda.
